SRSC was founded by the late Begum Akhtar Sulaiman daughter of former Prime Minister H.S Suharwardy in 1955 as a voluntary social welfare institution and registered as such on 19th Oct 1963. From the very outset, the institution has been funded, operated, and expanded by small group of dedicated and selfless people whose only objective was to provide limb and life-saving therapy to the special children of our underprivileged community. The pioneers were aware that a lot of small children, for want of proper expert care and therapeutic attention is needed,often grow up as a liability for their families and for the society as a whole. Lack of education and for want of adequate information, a lot of parents do not even seek recourse to specialist attention and resign to the fate. Firstly, they are not aware that the malady is not incurable and secondly, they do not have the financial resources to seek specialist attention.
